Flyway Surfer is an original arcade game with a fly runner and a pursuing flyswatter. Its automatic pilot combines real recorded fly connectivity with artificial game sensors, simplified neuron dynamics, and an arcade action decoder.

What actually runs

A 1,072-neuron subset with 26,544 directed edges from MaleCNS v1.0. The selected graph contains visual projection neurons, descending neurons, bridge neurons, and wing/haltere motor neurons. It is a small nervous-system subgraph, not a complete brain. All nodes participate in the rate simulation.

Incoming connection weights are normalized per receiving neuron and signed using the supplied presynaptic transmitter sign. A recurrent gain of 1.2 and a leaky update of 0.3 produce bounded, dimensionless rates between 0 and 3. These values are model activity, not biological spike measurements.

Artificial lane threat values stimulate left/right LC4 and LPLC2 groups. Mean DNp01–06 activity on each side is normalized by unilateral response gains (1.950 left, 1.388 right), then decoded into lane changes. Game rules supply the sensor values and the interpretation of the output. Jump and duck timing use a separate hand-coded reflex. Sugar attraction and track boundaries are also artificial sensory inputs. There is no learning, reward training, or claim of biological behavioral fidelity.

The visualization uses schematic node positions because this graph contains no anatomical coordinates. Node brightness follows the running model. In manual mode the circuit receives observations but does not control the fly.

Game technology

Rendering uses Three.js 0.180.0, MIT License. View license. Game models, scene, controls, and simulation code were created for Flyway Surfer. Barlow Condensed, DM Sans, and Space Mono are self-hosted from Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License, with system fallbacks. Barlow license · DM Sans license · Space Mono license.

Best score and sound preference are stored only in this browser. No analytics or game data uploads are implemented.
